GRIT | Solo Exhibition
GRIT is a solo exhibition by Dawn Okoro featuring a series of portraits of Black women painted with a raw and confrontational directness. The contrasting black and yellow combined with the use of negative space builds tension that creates energy that radiates outward from the totem-like figures. Okoro's influences include the ancient Mumuye sculptures of Nigeria, the sculpture work of Elizabeth Catlett, and '90s fashion photography.
